BAN ON EIGHT DOG BREEDS IN TURKS AND CAICOS PASSED IN HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY Changes to the Dog laws of the country will mean a ban on eight breeds of canine including the American Pit Bull Terrier; American Staffordshire Terrier; American Bull dog; Japanese Tosa; and Canary dog. These dogs are not only illegal to have, but illegal to bring into the Turks and Caicos and this will force Tourism, Resorts and concierge services to inform visitors to the country that these breeds are no longer welcomed in the TCI…. The fines for breeching this law, $50,000… much less is the fine, but still hefty is the charge for the new list of restricted breeds of dogs…these are allowed in the territory, but owners have stern guidelines including having to be at least 21 years old, keeping the dogs in an enclosure and posting warning signs about their canines. Considered restricted according to the new law, which is not yet in effect are: the Moscow Watch dog; the Roman fighting dog; the Tibetan Mastiff and Rottweilers – nine all together are named. More demanding though is that these dogs will now have to be sterilized or unable to breed and will have to be micro-chipped. The measure has been passed at the House of Assembly already, but no date for its effect is released as yet.
