BANDA... KATHMANDU, JUN 15 - A day after the government announced to hold the Constituent Assembly election on November 19, the dissident parties have formally decided to launch protests nationwide against the ‘illegitimate’ poll process. Organising an emergency meeting at the CPN-Maoist headquarters on Friday, the Mohan Baidya-led 33-party alliance, the Upendra Yadav-led Federal Democratic Front and the Federal Socialist Party Nepal have announced a joint protest programme over three days, organising corner assemblies across the country and enforcing a general strike on Sunday. Brushing their ifferences aside, the meeting agreed to launch several other joint protest programmes. The dissident forces have demanded that the government immediately withdraw the election date claiming that declaring the polls without the consent of half the political parties would merely be a drama. The parties have demanded exterminating the 11-point deal and the 25-point pact reached for removing constitutional difficulties and the dissolution of the Khil Raj Regmi-led election government. CPN-Maoist Vice-chairman CP Gajurel accused the government and the political parties of behaving as directed by the Indian government. “Is this election to please their masters or for the common Nepali citizen?” asked Gajurel. Addressing a small mass at Ratnapark on Friday evening, Gajurel described the step as an act of counter-revolution. “Our protest will continue until the government is ready to address our demands,” said FSPN Chairman Ashok Rai, adding, however, that they were not against talks and CA election. Despite shared goals, the three dissident forces have several differences. Yadav and Rai have registered their parties with the Election Commission while the CPN-Maoist is demanding the dissolution of the interim government. Posted on: 2013-06-15 08:31
