BANDSMEN FINED FOR KICKING A BARRIER AFTER BEING PELTED BY MISSILES Bandsman fined for kicking barrier during Twelfth trouble A bandsman hit by paint during interface trouble was fined £350 on Wednesday for kicking out at a barrier in “frustration” at coming under attack. Edward Bell admitted a charge of using disorderly behaviour on Belfast’s Newtownards Road. The 30-year-old, of Ballyalton Park, Newtownabbey, was caught up in missiles thrown across from the Short Strand area on July 12 this year. His lawyer told Belfast Magistrates’ Court there had been an element of provocation to his behaviour. “He was in the area when a number of missiles came in on top of him,” the lawyer said. “He was with his young son which added to his frustration and he went to the area and kicked a barrier.” District Judge Fiona Bagnall was assured Bell had not been part of any street violence at the time. Imposing the £350 fine, she recognised he was charged only with disorderly behaviour. Judge Bagnall said: “It’s an aggravating factor that it happened in the context of community public disorder. “However, he has no record, put his plea in and hasn’t been part of the overall situation. newsletter.co.uk/news/regional/bandsman-fined-for-kicking-barrier-during-twelfth-trouble-1-5478668#.UjB7YbWU86c.twitter
