BARAMULLA HDFC Standard, MetLife insurance companies ‘dupe’ customers Authorities clueless, customers demand tough action Baramulla, June 02: Insurance companies working under the brand name of HDFC Standard Life Insurance and Met Life have allegedly duped gullible customers by promising them insurance benefits in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The companies have either failed to provide policy bonds or have wrongly sold insurance policies to the customers. Known pediatrician of north Kashmir, Dr. Gavinderjit Singh, who is a policy holder said, “Consultants from HDFC Standard Life Insurance approached me on November 04, 2013 to sell an insurance policy under HDFC Life Classic Assure plus Plan. They explained to me the plan and policy features in detail with assurances to get benefit of 10 lakh plus maturity benefit on the maturity of the policy. Accordingly an amount of one lakh rupees was debited from my HDFC Bank account bearing number 50100002679680.” However, the insurance policy sold to him under policy number 16445602 with Unique Identification Number (UIN) 101N089V01 and client ID 64894838 reads otherwise putting the customer in a fix. “Instead of handing over the policy bond to the client in person, the policy was sent on my residential address in last week of December 2013 when I was out of state. After returning home on 10 January, 2014, I saw the policy,” the doctor said adding that while reading terms and conditions in the policy bond, I was shocked to know that the maturity benefits were mere Rs 4,62,294 which was totally breach of trust and wrong selling.” He further said that after inquiring from the consultants who sold the insurance policy and concerned HDFC bank authorities in Baramulla about the wrong selling, he was assured that he would get his money back. “Later, both insurance consultants and bank authorities started ignoring my pleas and I filed a complaint in HDFC bank but got no satisfactory reply so far. Even the consultant having code 00535971 has fraudulently made a signature on policy paper,” alleged Dr. Gavinderjit. The client has approached grievance cell of the insurance company but there has been no reply to his repeated pleas. He has approached police and other concerned authorities to expose the “fraud insurance companies.” “I want HDFC bank authorities who own such fraud insurance companies to return Rs One lakh to my account and I don’t want such dubious insurance service,” rued Dr. Gavinderjit. In another such case, MetLife insurance functioning from J&K bank branches has allegedly duped several people with fake polices and ‘swindled’ hefty amounts from clients. “I have my account in Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch TP Baramulla bearing number SB-19099. A clerk from JK bank along with a MetLife agent approached me to have an insurance policy and they convinced me about the plan and benefits. I was told to deposit Rs 50,000 as first installment which was transferred from my bank account vide CA No. 6723306 and DC No. 55900 dated 25-4-2014 to Metlife with assurance of receipt and policy bond,” said Mohammed Hanief, a government employee from Khadinayar, Baramulla. “I have not received any receipt or policy bond. I was duped by the MetLife agents who are hand in glove with J&K Bank authorities. I approached bank authorities and MetLife but they are not paying any heed. It is indeed a cheating,” said Hanief. Both the costumers duped by insurance companies working under branch names of J&K bank and HDFC bank have appealed higher ups of the concerned banks to look into the matter and do justice to them. Branch Manager HDFC Bank Baramulla, Harjeet Singh Bali said, “We have taken up the matter with the concerned grievance cell and HDFC Life Insurance authorities to look into the matter.” When contacted, Metlife and Jammu and Kashmir bank authorities, KB Adda branch Baramulla didn’t have any satisfactory reply. However, the bank accepted and confirmed that transaction has been made to Metlife.
