BAYOU VERMILION DISTRICT HAS A JOB OPENING FOR TOUR GUIDE/VILLAGE & RIVER INTERPRETER Title: Tour Guide/Village & River Interpreter Reports to: Museum Operations Coordinator Classification: Part-time or Contract - As Needed Salary: $8.25/hr Main responsibilities : This person is responsible for taking guests of all ages and backgrounds on interpretative tours through Vermilionvilles historic village and/or the Bayou Vermilion. This individual must arrive to work in period costume that is approved by the Curator. 1. Provide accurate historical and cultural information presented in an interesting manner to guests from a variety of backgrounds and ages. Material presented must be age appropriate. 2. Greet, orient, control and direct groups in a friendly manner. For school groups, make sure that the students are supervised at all times, either by guide directly or an official chaperone. 3. Follow daily rotation schedule to bring tours to their scheduled activities (shopping, boat tour, rag dolls, etc.) in a timely matter. 4. Provide group orientations on an as-needed basis. 5. Supervise group while in gift shop. If needed, assist gift shop staff in bagging items. 6. Help with lunches on as-needed basis. If needed, pour drinks for tour groups. 7. Teach or assist with enhancements (rag doll classes, dance lessons) and cooking demonstrations. 8. Assist with interpretation for boat tours. 9. Attend staff meetings and training sessions. 10. Follow all policies and procedures in the personnel manual. 11. Complete any additional duties the MO Supervisors assign. Qualifications : -Excellent public speaking abilities -Fluency in French is highly desirable -Ability to work within set schedule, yet flexibility to make adjustments as needed -Excellent crisis management abilities -Must have excellent customer service skills -Ability to stand and/or walk for two hours at a time in extreme temperature conditions (heat, humidity, cold) Documents Needed : -Resume of qualifications -Schedule of availability Please note that our hours of operation are Tuesday-Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM.
