BB-35 Leaves the Belfast Lough! Onto NORMANDY! Fair Winds & Following Seas From the June 1944 War Diary of Battleship TEXAS 3 June - Underway at 0209 in accordance with CTF 129 Movement Order #4-44 followed by U.S.S. ARKANSAS, U.S.S. NEVADA, FS GEORGES LEYGUES and FS MONTCALM forming in column in order named on OBD-5 in TEXAS (OTC) as guide screeened by JEETERS (CDS 17), CHERARDI, GLENNON, PLUNKETT, AMESBURY, and BLESSMAN. At 0330 set course 160°t speed 15kts standing down channel through the Irish Sea. Weather overcast with occasional rain squalls wind from the southwest. At 1440 sighted HMS RAMILLES and WARSPITE with escort screen on starboard bow on parallel course. From this time on many merchant convoys and British warship squadrons were sighted and passed all heading on parallel courses to southward. At 2004 Belwich Lightship was passed abeam to port distant 5000 yds on course 090° and course was changed to conform to channel to 180°t. From this point on the British War Channels as set forth in various QZS messages was strictly adhered to.
