BDO Africa Desk Newsflash Economic Community of West African States - Single currency begins in 2015 12 June 2013 The West Africa Monetary Institute (WAMI) has set January 2015 as target date for the ECOWAS single currency (ECO). The payment systems have been put in place with the ECO Central Bank which will be located in Ghana. Each member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will be contributing to the Bank according to their GDP. WAMI is currently working on harmonizing the convertibility of the currency to meet with local currencies. Note. The member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
