BE AWARE ! The Indian Air Force (IAF) has lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police about fraudulent websites and Facebook pages where money is being sought on its behalf in the name of relief fund for calamity-hit Uttarakhand. According to the IAF, which won accolades for doing a commendable job during the recently concluded massive rescue operation in Uttarakhand while fighting against all odds to bring back thousands stuck in inaccessible hills and relief operation thereafter, criminal elements have been trying to cash in on the goodwill its humane action generated. The IAF has said in its complaint that some websites have used its logo to look authentic and have put up bank account numbers asking people to donate generously for the victims. A case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology Act has been registered. Police were also trying to track the IP addresses of the computers used to circulate the message online. They were suspecting involvement of a gang of cyber experts in the crime. The IAF and the police have also urged people to be wary of such websites.
