BE WARNED Dear footballer, It has recently been brought to the attention of OST Scouting Ltd that rogue agents are operating on a large scale, targeting young African players mainly in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Ivory Coast. The agents contact the players usually via social media such as Facebook and Twitter; promising them lucrative contracts and opportunities to trial at some of the biggest clubs in Europe and the US. These smart rogue agents in most cases steal names of licensed agents listed on the FIFA website in order to fully deceive players into believing everything is legit. They inform the players and/or their managers of the need to apply for entry visas and give them bank account details in which they are to deposit the funds in order to process the visas. When the money is deposited the agent disappears and cannot be traced. In some extreme cases, parents have been known to sell prized possessions to raise the money to pay the agents and help make their kids dreams come true. Players have left their home countries only to find themselves stranded in a foreign land with no agent, no money and no return ticket home. They have been forced to live illegally and commit crimes to get by.
