BEANS FOR BAGS! Oregon Green Schools is officially on the ballot. Voting is open to First Alternative Co-op owners only so if you know of any supporters who are also owners, make sure you encourage them to vote! The ballot will be published in the October Thymes. A little about the program… Beans for Bags is one of our most popular donation programs at the Co-op. The aim of the program is to encourage conservation of disposable bags by offering customers a lima bean in exchange for bringing in their own shopping bag. The lima bean represents 5¢, and customers can choose which owner-elected local environmental group they would like to support with their bean. Simply place your beans in the slots of your choice in the wooden towers located at the exits of the stores. The beans are tallied quarterly, and each of the organizations receives a check.
