BECAUSE A mangrove and coastal marine ecosystem located in the tropics and subtropics of the world, is irreplaceable and unique because it is home to an incredible biodiversity. It is regarded as one of the five most productive ecological units world played important tasks that allow a natural balance. Among this, flood control, shoreline stabilization through erosion, sediment trapping and purifying toxic substances reaching the sea water, desalination of water entering land, source of organic matter, litter production and export of biomass, storm protection, as windbreaks and shade microclimates stabilization. Mexico has lost more than 75 percent of the mangrove ecosystem in 24 years and currently has only 650 000 hectares of wetlands, according to the National Mangrove Inventory prepared in 2007 by the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity.
