My interest in this question began when I studied the analytical psychology of Carl Jung. Later this interest was rekindled at a workshop called “Eating Your Shadow,” given by the American poet and thinker Robert Bly. Since then, my fascination with this subject has only increased. I saw the benefits of exploring the concept of the shadow for both my own personal growth and that of my clients. My lectures and workshops on the theme of the shadow have allowed me to share my enthusiasm for the usefulness of this notion with a wide audience and I am combining the results of my research and my own reflections. Is our shadow a friend or an enemy? That will depend entirely on how we view it and interact with it. At first it will appear to be an enemy. But gradually we can welcome and befriend it. That is the challenge this course holds out to you, the challenge of welcoming and befriending your shadow. Each module begins with a story to let you, the student get an intuitive grasp of the ideas to be developed in that module. Wherever possible, examples from real life support theoretical considerations. The exercises in unit 5 and 6 invite you to take an active part in your own personal growth.
