BEHIND THE SCENES with the COMMON CORE BILL OKLAHOMA HOUSE MEMBERS FOUGHT FOR 1ST VERSION OF HB 3399 --which is much better than what the Senate has done with the bill along with a number of people who agreed to it up front to get the Governors approval. Those who wrote and supported the Senate version when it was filed 3-21-14 include authors Breechen, Sykes, Brinkley along with ROPE, GOP leader Carolyn McLarty, Holly Gerard and others --see press release and audio tapes below. That amendment became a new bill in reality with the same number HB 3399. How many classroom teachers participated in the writing of the Senate version we now have? One I wonder about.... is Senator Breechens mother Teri Breechen who is the director of Literacy CCSS -Common Core and over the Reach Coaches at the State Department of Education. The wording of the bill cleverly states the adopted standards will be revised by the state school board. Those are not throw away words..... adopted standards are OAS, which are the Common Core renamed by Barresi (not just according to me but to many others including Principal Rob Miller). My recommendations for amendments are written in an effort to change the problems in that Senate version, which just passed yesterday. Theystill stand and I will be working to get amendments in the bill in the House as they receive it back for a vote.... Because the HOUSE did not approve the version the Senate has now produced by compromising with the Governor! I was in the Capitol for 2 days working to get REPEAL in the bill before it left the House on 3-12-14. There were many many political battles going on to get that done. You may recall back then ROPE was saying we cant get REPEAL we need to support DELAY. BUT we DID get REPEAL in 3399 and it passed. We set up a petition and gathered 1,500 signatures in just a few days and delivered it to House member, Representative Gus Blackwell who NEEDED our support to stand and fight for his bill 3167 which was the only REPEAL bill. WE got REPEAL into 3399 before the vote on 3-12-14!! That is the only part of 3399 that is desirable! **Behind the Scenes ----I do know that the new Speaker of the House, Hickman stood up to Mary Fallins attempt to force the House members to conform to her agenda. She had 28 of them in a room a day before the House voted the Repeal bill HB -3399 which was a good bill compared to what we have now with Breechen, Nelson & ROPEs Senate version which compromises with the Governor. Hickman allowed REPEAL in 3399 as an amendment and the House overwhelmingly voted it in and sent it to the Senate. Fallins political staffer, Denise Northrup who has been said to actually run the Governor is the one who jumped on the 28 House members that would NOT comply. The bully tactics did not work on the House leaders. KFAQ radios Pat Campbell has talked about this on air through another source.
