BEING A STATE-WIDE BROADCAST DELIVERED BY HIS EXCELLENCY, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF OYO STATE, SEN. ABIOLA AJIMOBI ON PERMANENT VOTERS’ CARD My good people of Oyo State, I warmly extend my greetings to you today. Today, I bring you good tidings. It is to announce the commencement of a most fundamental exercise in our democratic process. The issuance of the Permanent Voters’ Cards starts on Friday, August 15, 2014 and ends on August 18, 2014. It is to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). 2. The importance of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) is that without a PVC, prospective voters lose the right to elect candidates of their choice in the 2015 elections and thereafter. 3. It is so important that we have declared Friday, 15th August, 2014 as a public holiday in order to allow every potential voter to get registered and to be able to own a permanent voter’s card. Please endeavour to participate in order not to lose your right to vote in future elections. 4. Performing your civic responsibility is critical to the growth and sustenance of our democratic institutions and governance just as it is important for the sustenance of our administration’s achievements. This requires your personal commitment. Therefore, indifference to this exercise will be too dire to contemplate. Let us sustain the progress we have achieved. 5. Experiences from recent elections show that it is the will of the people that must prevail. Exercising that will, therefore, begins with your collection of a Permanent Voter’s Card. 6. Please do not sell or trade your voter’s card for any reason. Doing so will compromise the future of your community and the future of our children. 7. This is also an opportunity for newly eligible voters. If you just turned 18 or if you recently moved into Oyo State, endeavour to register. 8. I enjoin you all our community leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, political leaders as well as captains of industry to educate and mobilise our people on the imperative of this exercise. 9. My good people of Oyo State, your vote is your power. Using it wisely begins with your participation in the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards and the forthcoming voters’ registration exercise. Kindly come out en masse to exercise your civic responsibility. 10. K’oyo l’e daa, Ajumose gbogbo wa ni. 11. Thank you. God bless Oyo State. God bless Nigeria.
