Enkele actievoeders die kampeerden in het kamp werden op zeer brutale wijze door de politie verdreven. Ondanks de mediastilte rond deze evenementen, stonden de sociale media in rep en roer en was het startschot gegeven voor massabetogingen van honderdduizenden die op straat kwamen en die nu reeds een twee dikke weken aanslepen. Er zijn al een viertal doden gevallen en duizenden gewonden, De hevige protesten zijn gericht tegen premier Erdogan en zijn conservatieve beleid, zijn politiek i.v.m.
