BENEFIT OF RIDING A BIKE INSTEAD OF DRIVING A CAR: I have to say that biking everywhere this past month has its pluses. I feel alive with the wind and sun on my skin whereas in the truck you are removed from the environment. Im loosing weight because Im exerting so much energy and am always hungry whereas in the truck you just sit there thinking you are moving when youre not. There are no parking issues and there is no charge for bike parking (yet). Im not dumping money into the gas tank every week because biking is me-powered. Other things Im noticing is that going somewhere is an event and requires planning whereas with the truck I could just run down to the store to get ketchup. Isaac and I actually talk more biking than we did in the car for some reason (he chooses to escort me around). As I pass people on the greenbelt I say hi and stop for peoples needs, cant do that too easily in a truck flying down the road at 30-60 mph. You get a totally different view of the city, the context in which you live and how far away something really is. Im really open to the Ruach, praying or memorizing verses on my rides. Im staying really local and finding new paths to travel whereas a car can only go on paved roads. And mostly, Im getting really good at thinking through the idea of going shopping or somewhere to get something. Do I really have to? Why? Can I get by without? What else do I need in that area? What are the necessities? Because I can only get what I can fit in my basket and on my shoulder. This changes everything about going to town! I will say that Papa has blessed this month with amazing weather. Sunny and warm. No rain (which would make it miserable). And I will say that it is getting really old trying to get to the other side of town where some stores are that are not within biking distance or getting my daughter from school which is 30 miles away. Papa is providing and we will have our rig back before the rains start. For now, we bike and pray. I dont say all this because Im an environmentalist or that kind of activist, though I do care about Elohims Creation. I say it because Papa sometimes provides in curious ways. How else could I have different eyes to see unless I was forced to give up the comfort of the car? Heres a little video of riding our puppy, Kayrah back from surgery on our bike.
