#BETT2014 Not much to shout about really. Last years 3d - TopicsExpress

#BETT2014 Not much to shout about really. Last years 3d projectors have been replaced by coding. Great to meet lots of customers old and new, but vaguely depressing that so many Teachmeet presenters were talking about the impact of audience on learners like it was some kind of revelation. Its something that our bloggers have known for years. On Teachmeet itself, with one or two honourable exceptions (Im looking at you Julian Woods), I dont think the format translated well to the large arena. The tension between it being by teachers for teachers in which anyone can have their say and the need to entertain a large arena wont go away. The best bit of practice shared was actually by Catherine Steel who is managing to make teaching to the year 1 phonics test engaging. But I couldnt help but feel her presentation would be best delivered at a local cluster meeting. This is no criticism of the organisers (or presenters) who did a fantastic job at putting together such a vast event, but I just wonder whether a format such as Collabor8 for change with table talks in small groups allowing for genuine discourse to take place might be the way forward.
