BEWARE OF THE CANCER IN OUR MIDST SOME go by the surname al-Australi or al-Astrali. They are Australian Muslims who have adopted the title, which simply means “from Australia”, to hide their identities as they fight for the Islamic State in Syria or Iraq. Others use the pseudonym as they connect with friends of the Islamic State, also known as IS, ISIS or ISIL, from within Australia on social media. And others appear to use their real names as they also link to supporters of the terror regime. Facebook is riddled with them. The man who calls himself Abu Mansour Al Australi, faceless under a black hoodie, has his right index finger pointed to the skies in what has now become a symbol of IS, alongside graphics of men with raised AK-47s. He links to friends and sites that support the Islamic State. He also likes bodybuilding and the Australian Muslim Trading Post. He does not give his whereabouts. Abu Yacoub Al Astrali gives his location as Raqqa, Syria, and calls Facebook “jewbook”. He describes the Islamic State’s Iraqi and Kurdish opponents as looking like “dads army” and tells them: “Go hard boys soon you will be headless and all over you tube lol.” Mahmoud Al-Australi, who likes a photo with the caption “God Bless Hamas”, links to numerous Australians, including some that openly declare themselves Islamic State supporters. These may be some of the 60 or so young men that Tony Abbott has warned are now embedded with the Islamic State, along with another 100 or so who he says are in its support network. The Islamic State is now listed as a terrorist organisation, with anyone who participates in its war facing up to 25 years in prison should they return to Australia. Attorney-General George Brandis has also stated that it is “an offence to get funds to, from or for, provide support to and associate with members of the Islamic State”. His spokesman said it was a grey area as to whether people cheering from the sidelines, on Facebook or other social media, were liable to prosecution but said so far federal authorities were most interested in those who went to fight or gave financial support. One of Mahmoud Al-Australi’s friends is Jundallah Islam, who also wears a black hoodie with “Soldier of Allah” emblazoned across the back. He says he went to Ashcroft High in NSW. news.au/technology/online/facebook-riddled-with-australian-muslims-supporting-isis/story-fnjwmwrh-1227034437804
