BEWDLEY ANGLING FESTIVAL DAY ONE After reading the report from - TopicsExpress

BEWDLEY ANGLING FESTIVAL DAY ONE After reading the report from the Bridgnorth AS match yesterday I feared the worst for Day One of the Bewdley Festival on the Severn today. The river today was carrying a lot of suspended silt that quickly adhered itself to your keepnets and in my experience the Severn rarely fishes well when this happens. I was really disappointed to draw peg 26 - the Stones - on the upstream Hawksbatch section. Its a very shallow swim that used to be good many years ago but it rarely show these days. An all out feeder attack with maggots, casters and hemp and halibut pellets brought me the princely total of 1-14-0, a catch which comprised two eels, a perch and a dace. Highlight of the day was feeding some rare looking ducks...enough said! I lost a pound to Gary Farmer and the best weight on the upstream zone was Pete Edwards with 12lb from peg 29. I understand 15lb won the match, a catch of two barbel tken by venue regular Phil Jackson. Im only 13lb behind the leader with two match days to go! Loads of people caught next to nothing today which was a big disappointment after the way the venue was fishing before the rain came. Hopefully, it will be better on Wednesday...well it cant be much worse for me, can it? Result to follow later...
