BFL v ABERDARE It was a cruel case of deja vu for Carl Shaws team after conceding another injury time equaliser at the Old road on Tuesday evening. The Ferry welcomed Aberdare after already losing to them away in the league this season and also closely falling to them in last years Welsh cup. Welcomed back to the squad were keeper Luke Probert along with skipper Gavin Jones who took his place on the bench. Shaw reshuffled the midfield trio with Rory Healey and Scott Kenyon supporting Lee John, also Daniel Kingdom started at centre half due to the late arrival from work of Josh Cockings. A promising performance previous at home to Afan Lido was blemished with a late equaliser even though it took the teams unbeaten run to three games. Eddie King got the game under way and with a good crowd of 138 in support the Ferry started with promise and intent, and got their first shot on target after 5 minutes, a Luke Probert clearance was flicked on by Gareth Jones and good anticipation from Ryan Grifiths allowed him to test visiting keeper Ellis Nash who done well to save. An even better chance came on 12 minutes, a beautiful lofted pass from Steve Davey putting Gareth Jones through on goal but the striker could only blast over from ten yards. The midfield trio of John, Healey and Kenyon were starting to dominate through their sheer hard work and the defence marshalled by the outstanding Dean Hudson looked to be coping well with experienced striker Darren French in the early stages. Another good chance went by on 17 minutes with a lovely long range pass from Healey finding Steve Davey who played in full back Josh Pike on the overlap, his whipped cross just eluded striker Jones at full stretch. Aberdares main threat seemed to be right full back Adam Lewis who looked dangerous on the counter and he was involved in the build up to the visitors first good chance on 35 minutes, midfielder Aaron Jewel beating the offside trap and his shot was superbly saved by Probert. With half time approaching the Ferry did get the deserved breakthrough on 42 minutes, a lovely run and assist by the in form Ryan Griffiths putting it on a plate for Gareth Jones to finish from close range to make it seven goals in seven games for the centre forward. HT 1-0 Aberdare started the second half with more purpose and had a big penalty appeal turned down on 50 minutes. Midfielder Scott Kenyon had a good long range effort deflected just over on 66 minutes after again some good work from winger Davey. The game had been played in good spirit but referee King made his first big decision on 72 minutes showing Aberdare full back Adam Lewis his second yellow for persistent foul play after a foul on Griffiths. The question on everyone’s lips was could the hosts kill the game off against the ten men after what had happened against Afan Lido, they certainly had the chances to do so with the best falling to Gareth Jones on 74 after being played through by Healey he found Nash in the way again. A long range shot from Healey just went wide of the post on 76 minutes and Aberdare had a good chance for the equlaiser after a slip at the back allowed Jamie Bradford to shoot but he rifled over. Skipper Gavin Jones was welcomed back on 85 minutes in place of the excellent Steve Davey, on 88 another great chance to put the game to bed fell to Griffiths after another flick on from Gareth Jones, but yet again his shot was saved by Ellis Nash. With 90 minutes up Scott Kenyon released Gavin Jones and his low shot finally beat Nash only to see the ball rebound of the post to safety. We all know football can be a cruel game and this was definitely the case with the hosts having enough chances to win two games the visitors countered a Ferry attack on 93 minutes, a long ball out of defence found influential winger Lewis Hitchcock and his cross found Richard French on the penalty spot, the striker expertly turned his defender and unleashed a left foot shot past Probert to give his team a point and leave the hosts distraught. The feeling was certainly two points dropped again for Shaw and his men but it now extends the teams unbeaten run to four before travelling to Cambrian & Clydach this Saturday. Man of the match- DEAN HUDSON- chosen by Briton Ferry Construction- Marshalled the defence superbly and deserved a clean sheet for the teams best defensive display of the season.
