BHm - Sport No 30 Base jumping Also written B.A.S.E. jumping is an activity that employs an initially packed parachute jump from fixed objects. B.A.S.E is an anacronym that stands for 4 categories of fixed objects from which one can jump. Buildings antennas,, spans (bridges) and earth (cliffs) Upon completing a jump from all 4 object categories a jumper may apply for a BASE number which is in sequential order. BASE number 1 is held by Phil Smith -Houston issued in 1981. The 1000th number was taken in 2005 and a further 400+ have been gained to date. These jumps have been recorded on film sometimes and locations have featured events in Hong Kong, Eiffel Tower, Rock of Gibralta and the Meru peak in Northern India at 21,667ft. Competitions have been held since 1980 for accurate landings. In 2010 a 53 group of jumpers took off from a cliff in Norway
