BIBLE BASED CONFIDENCE-would Jesus encourage us tobelieve in ourselves so us to live disciplined and profitable life, a life which pleases God as his followers. does the Bible say we can do all things by believing in ourselves. Didnt the people in Genesis 11 so believe in themselves to the extent of beginning a great project which God stopped in the middle- the tower of Babel. If by saying believe in yourself we mean do not look down upon yourself there should be a premise for not looking down upon oneself and that is; we are created in the image of God. If I despise myself or others, I am demeaning the high value God places on us. But this does not mean we can achieve much without God. Whatever much we may achieve without him is what Solomon said its chasing after the wind. Hence, God has put in us ability to achieve great things, things which will be pleasing to him and beneficial to us and the creation he has put under us. However, we can neither achieve greatness by looking down upon ourselves nor by believing in ourselves but by looking up to God and believing him(what he says about us and himself). That is why Solomon who had all reason to believe in himself, (and he did so early in his life) despite his immense riches and wisdom penned these words by inspiration of the Holy Spirit Trust (believe) in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes (Proverbs 3:5-7)
