BIG EYES A film Directed and Produced by Tim Burton, only this time there is no presence of Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter so you know that youre in for something different from the normal Burton stuff. Well at the start of the film, it looks like the set used in Edward Scissorhands with the Stepford Wives-esque houses and perfect surrounding gardens and roads. Once that scene shot was over, it then descended into a film representing a true story about a woman (played by Amy Adams) in the 1950s who loves to paint, and whilst painting with her daughter, she then meets her next husband who is played by Christoph Waltz. The husband character is Walter Keane and he is already an established painter of Parisian street scenes that are not doing very well in art establishments. Amys character, Margaret, loves to paint pictures of a girl with Big Eyes that can be mesmerising and intriguing. Walter soon takes credit for her work as lady art does not sell so put a mans name to it and Bingo! Well it is the 1950s but Amys character is quite independently minded. So becomes a film about the art world and struggles in relationships and the woman running away from her man to Hawaii to set herself up yet again after previously running away from another. I found the film a bit slow in places and not really ta-dah different. It very much felt like another Directors work but then there is a bit of Burton kookiness found within the film. Not an overall classic Burton film but stay with it, just a nice true story about a woman who wont let a man rule her in the end! Good on her for empowerment. There are a couple of good songs sang by Lana Del Rey in the film and also used at the end credits. Ill only give this film 3/5 simply because there was no Johnny Depp and mad Burton style direction but otherwise an OK Burton film. https://youtube/watch?v=2xD9uTlh5hI
