BIG NEWS FOR ALL ASPIRING DOULAS... Although I am shifting my focus personally away from doula work and into the art of midwifery, after 8 years of serving in that capacity, the valuable, life-changing work of a doula is something that will always be extremely near and dear to my heart. Becoming a doula can look many different ways and there are several paths to get there, but in my opinion, a good certification program should not only provide resources, referrals and accountability, but also embrace your skills, experiences and education. It should celebrate your uniqueness and help you tailor your doula practice based on who you already are (not mold you into who they want you to be). It should teach you how to utilize ALL of your skills and life experiences in a safe, healthy way to best serve your client (not punish you for using them or limit you from serving your client fully). After years of looking and not ever quite finding a program like that, well, you know me, I decided to start my own! So, as I leave the actual work of being a doula to others, my contribution to this profession will now be to mentor, advice, prepare and yes, CERTIFY! Im really excited about this and will be launching the specifics soon. I, along with another very experienced doula are starting the task of putting together the skills workshop and doula manual now so Id love to know who is interested. Spaces this first year will be extremely limited (10-12 max) so that I can give very personal attention to each registrant, so let me know ASAP if becoming a McDoula Certified Doula (credential will be MCD) is something you are interested in :-)
