BINAY leads groundbreaking of 900 housing units in Tacloban Tuesday, March 4, 2014 (Star News) VICE President Jejomar Binay led on Tuesday the groundbreaking of the MRDC Greenland Townhomes financed by Pag-Ibig Fund in Tacloban, Leyte. Under the project, some 900 housing units will be constructed for government and private employees who were victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). The project will be developed in five phases -- each phase will have 180 units. “I am confident that through our concerted efforts, we will be able to fast track the building of quality and climate resilient homes here in Leyte,” said Binay in a statement. The Vice President also unveiled the project marker for the Metro Ormoc Community Multipurpose Cooperative (OCCCI) Housing Project at Barangay Dolores, Ormoc City. Under the project, some 278 housing units will be constructed for OCCCI members, who are mostly survivors of Yolanda. Binay also led the unveiling of a marker in Leyte to commemorate Pag-Ibig’s donation to rebuild the rural health center in Tanauan destroyed by the super typhoon. Pag-Ibig donated P10 million to rebuild the old one-storey municipal rural health center into a two-storey hospital. Binay also unveiled the project marker of Pag-Ibig Fund’s donation to Jaro 1 Central School in Jaro, Leyte. The elementary school is 36 kilometers away from Tacloban and was destroyed by the super typhoon. Pag-Ibig donated P10 million to cover the construction of a new two-storey building with four classrooms and four restrooms, as well as the repair of the seven remaining damaged classrooms. Aside from the housing units, we also made it a point to help rebuild schools and health facilities, Binay said. “This is just the start. Pag-Ibig Fund remains committed in helping those who were affected by typhoon Yolanda start new and better lives,” Binay added. (PNA)
