BJI named Tom Shannon the 2014 Proprietor of the Year. Mr. Bowlmor, really? I dont know Mr. Shannon personally but what I do know is the man is not your typical owner. Most bowling centers were built around the comradery of competition and seeing our friends, experiencing quality time. Bowlmor only cares about the high end open bowler. Changed the hours to open later so they can throw senior leagues out of numerous centers, increased lineage sharply on league that bowl weekends to get rid of those weekly bowlers that preferred a Friday or Saturday. The money became more important than the customer. His ads cross the boundaries of good taste, like his NYC subway ad that states Getting jumped in an alley has never been so much fun with a scantly clad women mounting herself onto the back of a male bowler. Rape is something never to be taken lightly. In 2010 they were hit with a lawsuit for bias against minorities. I can rant on and on but those of us in the industry know what kind of a person he is so why bother. I am sickened by the fact that we have owners all over the country that put the customers and communities first and they get pushed aside for this guy. I must be the crazy one to think that he should never have been issued this award.
