BJP adopts tough approach with Shiv Sena in much-required Maharashtra It is nice to note that BJP emerged as a strong national party which is bold enough to adopt a tough approach by not succumbing to undesired pressure of Shiv Sena despite BJP being much short of absolute majority in the state. Result was that Shiv Sena could not dare to outright reject its alliance with BJP and rather preferred giving ‘one more chance’ to BJP for retaining the alliance even after recalling its Anil Desai without taking oath as Union Minister. Suresh Prabhu’s deserting Shiv Sena to join BJP for joining Union Cabinet should be taken as warning signal by Shiv Sena that its MLAs may follow the suit in case Shiv Sena does not accept reality of losing its big-brother status to BJP in Maharashtra. It will be in interest of all including Shiv Sena that Shiv Sena may not try to dictate unfair demands to BJP to continue BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. BJP’s tough approach is otherwise also in larger national interest of diluting role of dynastic regional parties in India’s political system. Time has come that such personality-based regional parties including NCP may merge with some national party or the other paving way for an ideal two-(or three)-party-system in the country. BJP-ruled strong Union Government should also initiate adequate poll-reforms for ensuring such an ideal two-(or three)-party-system thus also paving way for strong national alternative as well.
