BJP took conscious decision to name the indoor stadium after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee because, the party has support of lakhs of people in Goa, shown in the last election and at Modis rally. He said that Mukherjee was the first industries minister and framed the first industrial policy. He also sought to justify the naming by asking how the stadium was named after Jawaharlal Nehru and questioned what he had done for Goa, forgetting that it was under Nehru, that Goa was Liberated. He agreed that if name of prominent sports person was given, BJP would consider it, but seconds later making a U- turn, said there was no way they would change the name. In a major error, he suggested that all the great sports person in Goa were living. On the medium of instruction he said that BJP took no U-turn and read from the party manifesto.
