*BLACK HISTORY FACT* Addison Scurlock an African American photographer was born on this date in 1883.Addison Scurlock began his career as a photographer as an apprentice to Moses P. Rice, who had studios in Washington, D.C. Between, 1900 and 1904, he learned the basics of photographic portraiture and the entire range of laboratory work. In 1904, Scurlock started his own business at his parents’ home and focused on photographing at black universities and high schools. In 1907, he won a gold medal for photography at the Jamestown Exposition. AddisonScurlock opened the Scurlock Studio in 1911 and concentrated on portraiture and general photography.
