*BLACK HISTORY FACT* The African American daily newspaper, LUnion was started in New Orleans on this date in 1862. LUnion was the first African American daily newspaper in the South. During these early days of journalism, the free Black press strove to give voice to and unite the desires of Louisiana African Americans. LUnion was founded and circulated as a biweekly newspaper. LUnion was published primarily in French. In 1863, LUnion ran a few issues in english. Dr. Louis Charles Roudanez was LUnions primary financier and Paul Trévigne was the editor. Both men were prominent leaders in Louisianas civil rights movement, and under their direction, the paper primarily spoke for Louisiana’s community of people of color, slaves and newly freed Blacks. #JoeMadison #SiriusXM #UrbanView SiriusXM Urban View #BlackHistory
