‘BLUE JASMINE’ Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin. A life crisis - TopicsExpress

‘BLUE JASMINE’ Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin. A life crisis causes a socialite to head to San Francisco, where she reconnects with her sister. Woody Allen’s annual offering and I think one of his better dramas of late. Cate Blanchett is now the front runner for the year’s best actress award, playing the unstable Jasmine through having it all then losing it all when she discovers her cheating husband is also an financier cheater akin to Madoff. She drinks, cries and carries on conversations with nobody as her world is crashing around her. Allen’s usual humorous and numerous lines are more somber but still funny as these character’s battle life’s misfortunes. Andrew Dice Clay gives a surprising and noteworthy performance as her sister’s blue-collar husband. 3 stars for those who are into Woody Allen movies.
