BMT update #11: The Boy- Lucas is doing well but there is still a lot going on in the background... His heart rate is much lower, and thankfully within the normal range. He is no longer on a heart monitor as they are comfortable with where is heart is at. We received news that his liver functions are elevated and they are watching that closely. His fevers have subsided as well. Lucas is still displaying equal symptoms for infection or engraftment syndrome and the doctors are working diligently to rule out what they can. Ya see... Lucas has NEVER been the kid that has symptoms that give a straight answer. Yesterday we had a busy day... more blood draws. Blood transfusion. Sedation (which is not my favorite at all...) CT scan. & Ultrasound. The docs ordered a CT of the sinuses and chest and an ultrasound of the liver, spleen, and other areas. They are looking to rule out infection that may not show up in labs. At this time the docs are slightly leaning toward engraftment syndrome... and thats what were hoping for as well. In the meantime, Lucas has decreased vomiting by 100% but still has diarrhea and likely still has C-diff. We are working through that as well. He does have these bouts of feeling very uncomfortable where he cant get settled and tosses and turns (even when awake). This could be a clue that he has engraftment syndrome as well. Due to liver elevation he can no longer take Tylenol so we are working on a different route for discomfort. All-in-all, our baby is doing well. He looks well. We talk a lot and his main thing right now is going home. The New Year - I wish I had something poignant to say... something eloquent and poetic to say about the new year and about last year but really... its simple... Cancer STAYS in 2014. This year... 2015... is OURS. Lucas has new cells and is regrowing a new body with those cells... One and Done. Best wishes from the hospital. Lucas & Red
