BNSF Railway is actively seeking applications for the following positions: 1. Taconite Facility Worker – Allouez, WI: DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Operate taconite handling equipment and perform maintenance and cleaning functions at BNSF’s Allouez Taconite Facility, which is a 24/7 operation. • Employees will be subject to call working various shifts off an extra board. Occasional welding, grinding, and cutting of various metals and fabricating/repairing equipment. • Should be able to pass basic welding tests to include vertical, flat and structural stick welding. • Will operate heavy commercial equipment and need to be able to obtain a crane operator certification. The ability to troubleshoot 24 volt electrical systems and understand and troubleshoot hydraulic systems is preferred. • Will maintain daily records and time sheets and will lift and carry various materials. Will also act as watchman when crew or equipment are fouling track; must remain alert at all times. SAFETY: Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: • 21 years of age or older. • High School diploma or GED. • Available to work in the geographic area indicated. • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and communicate) English. • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet). • Work a 40 hour work week. Shifts are governed by union agreement and subject to seniority. Mechanical shops operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with three 8-hour shifts including weekends, holidays and overtime. Available to work any of these shifts as required. • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. • Possess Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment. • Able to visually distinguish among red, blue, green and yellow colors, hear, and with training, distinguish auditory signals. • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling. • Able to perform work on uneven surfaces, frequently climb ladders and on/off equipment and work from various heights. • Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes, work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time and use hand tools. • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Three (3) to five (5) years welding experience preferred (MIG, STICK, OXY / ACETYLENE). • Two (2) years technical training preferred. Job requires ability to read in order to deal with various aspects of the job (i.e., instruction manuals, safety instructions, book of rules and regulations). 2. Electrician (Allouez Taconite Facility)- Allouez, WI DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Taconite Facility Electrician job duties are as follow: Maintenance of high voltage distribution systems, motor starters and associated equipment, both overhead and underground, up to 15KV. Installation and maintenance of low voltage systems (less than 600 volts) for commercial and industrial functions including, but not limited to, the installation of conduit, wire, lighting systems, electrical devices, electrical services both underground and overhead, and other work normally associated with the electrical industry. The installation and maintenance of PLC systems (Programmable Logic Controllers), typically the Allen-Bradley SLC, and PLC-5 series. Installation, calibration, and repairs to belt scale systems, typically but not limited to the Milltronics BW 500 and Milltronics Universal Belt Scale. Other duties not listed above which may be required in the performance of the above described duties, and as may be necessary, or have been the traditional duties of the electricians at the BNSF Allouez Taconite Facility, per its agreement with the IBEW. Some out of town, overnight travel may be required. Applicants must be willing to work in both an indoor and an outdoor environment. QUALIFICATIONS: This position is subject to shift work. All applicants must pass a pre-employment aptitude test, have a High School Diploma or GED and pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen. Technical college degree or equivalent training preferred. The ideal candidate is any person who has served an apprenticeship or has had four (4) years experience in the electricians’ trade and who, by their skill and experience, is qualified, capable and competent to perform the various duties as described above. Other valuable skills include knowledge of electric motors, the ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, and experience with trouble-shooting defects with motors and other equipment If this sounds like you, or anyone you know – please have them contact me immediately.
