BOBS PON-SHOT OF THE WEEK: AN ANCHOR FOR THE SOUL from Bob - TopicsExpress

BOBS PON-SHOT OF THE WEEK: AN ANCHOR FOR THE SOUL from Bob Ponchot (1-24-14) Hebrews 6:19 says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” The hope that Paul speaks about is the certainty of the promises of God that are ours through the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf. The promises are safe and secure because Jesus entered the inner sanctuary behind the curtain on our behalf. He did this when He shed His blood on the cross and became the atoning sacrifice for our sin. PRAISE GOD! We have this hope and it is the anchor for our souls. We desperately need this because of the condition of our world and the foundations that are crumbling all around us. The present political situation in America is reeking havoc in the hearts of lovers of freedom and democracy. There is an uneasiness in the land because of the direction we are heading. Each day that passes by and each new decision that is made by those in power, drives another peg into the heart of God-fearing citizens. Concerned and informed Christians are well aware of the situation and what is going on in the land. Because we know the Lord and His Word, we are not people in darkness. We test and measure all things by God’s Word. If America fails and falls and goes the way of other once-great countries, then the only thing that will sustain us is that “anchor for the soul.” The only sure thing and stable thing is our faith in Jesus Christ and that hope which anchors our souls. Nations come and go. They rise and fall. But the child of God can face adversity because of His promises. We will win! We will be victors if we hang on to that Anchor. Rough waters are before us. The storms will be frightening; but hang on, JOY COMES IN THE MORNING. God will ultimately deal with the enemies of the cross. It will not go well for them, but it will go well for us. Galatians 6:9 tells us, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” The song writer was right when she penned these words: “We have an anchor that keeps the soul. Steadfast and sure while the billows roll, Fastened to the Rock which cannot move, Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.”
