BOSE constitutes panel on knotty Math paperTakes note of GK report; Experts to report in 3 days Srinagar, Oct 29: Taking cognizance of the Greater Kashmir news report published on Tuesday, Board of School Education (BOSE) has constituted a three-member committee to examine the complaint of class 12 students that Monday’s Mathematics paper was twisted and hard to comprehend. The committeehas been asked to submit its report within three days.A BOSE order issued today read: “Taking suo motto cognizance of the news item captioned ‘Knotty Mathematics paper troubles class 12 students’ in today’s edition of Greater Kashmir with regard to Mathematics paper of ongoing Higher Secondary partII (Class 12th) annual regular session Oct-Nov, 2013, the authorities have been pleased to constitute a committee.”Assistant Secretary (Administration Central) vide its order number F(Admn-C)CU/B/13 constituted the committee compromising In-charge Joint Secretary Examinations as its Convener and Deputy Secretary Legal and In-charge Deputy Secretary Secrecy as its members.“The committee shall involve a group of subject experts and have their views/comments over the subject matter and submit their findings to the authorities for taking final decision as warranted under rules,” reads the order. It adds: “The committeeshall submit its report within three days positively to the Secretary BOSE for further course of action as required.”Hundreds of students Monday staged protest demonstrations at Press Enclave here and blocked the busy Residency Road demanding re-examination of Mathematics paper. The protesters, joined by students of various reputed school including Presentation Convent and Biscoe, had said the question paper was twisted.When contacted, BOSE Secretary, Renu Goswami, said: “We have taken suo motto cognizance of GK news report. We received number of representations from students and parents throughout the day. We assure that after receiving report from the committee,our final call on the issue will be student-friendly.”She said that the committee has been asked to consult local subject experts for their views and comments, adding, “We are well aware that the issue pertains to our young students and society at large.”Earlier, hundreds of students assembled at BOSE office in Bemina here and staged protest demonstrations to press for their demand of re-examination.Students in large numbers were seen signing the representations. One of the students, Iram Farooq, said: “We have burnt mid-night oil to prepare for obtaining higher percentage in the subject as we are determined to go for engineering. How can BOSE discourage us by forcing us to remain with low grades after setting the paper out of context?” She said that she had also signed the representation and submitted it to BOSE.Various delegations of parents also submitted representations before the Board officials. One of the parents, Shabir Ahmad Nagroo, who arrived from Sirhama Bijbehara said: “It is grave negligence on part of Board officials. Government should take immediate necessary action against the erring officials. Education sector should be its prime priority.”“Either Board officials would play foul to prove their paper-setter right or deliver justice by announcing re-examination. The decision of the Board will decideits own fate of reputation for coming years,” said the students. #Dar
