BOWIE PART 3 Before I continue with the live show, I need to - TopicsExpress

BOWIE PART 3 Before I continue with the live show, I need to mention that as a production team we used to put in a lot of effort into the look of the show, the lighting, the stage, the decor. Each show was personalized. Props to our Alain Martineau. For this particular show I remember I really wanted BLUE to be the dominant colour. I used to love plexiglass stages lit from below but unfortunately back then we didnt have the capabilities to do it yet (but I managed to do it for later shows, I was such a pain in the ass about it). But we did manage to have some plexi hanging from the ceiling and it captured the colour really well. Now the magical thing about the show is that David Bowie (Official) showed up with a beautiful yellow shirt which simply made him look like the sunshine in the middle of the sky. David Bowie was 53 when we taped this show and you would swear he was in his thirties. And Im not just saying that. The other interesting fact about this show is that there is absolutely no smoking allowed in any television station. Period! If the fire department had showed up that night they could have stopped the show and shut the whole thing down. My boss sent me to ask David to put his cigarette out, but I just couldnt do it. He had a cigarette in his hand every minute I saw him. My bos s gave in at the last minute too. It was either happy Bowie with a cigarette or grumpy Bowie without it…LOL. I do hope he stopped smoking though…. Well the show was supposed to last 90 minutes and I was in the control room with the director of the show Roger Doose, who BTW was the only one I would trust with this show. We were communication live with Muchmusic and we were giving our countdowns to them as the show went along. Our commercial breaks had to match by the second. At about 85 minutes our floor director who if I remember correctly was Maude Bélanger, ran into the control room in a panic and screamed out Mr. Bowie wants to keep playing!!! Now I wont get into the details of live television, commercial breaks, scheduling, rescheduling…etc, but it seemed to cause a mountain of **** for our Toronto counterparts. If I remember correctly I think they managed to somehow end their show after 90 min with their host over there, but we kept going for an extra 30 minutes because Mr. Bowie was in such great form, had such a great time with our interviewers and staff, loved the audience and their response that he just wanted to keep playing. This was all live, he sounded so awesome, his voice was impeccable, he knew all his lyrics, unlike some other artists Ive seen using key sheets…what can I say, if someone can be nearly perfect, well he is. Here is the setlist that night: Survive Ashes To Ashes interview Seven Thursdays Child interview Stay Always Crashing In The Same Car Something In The Air The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell Cracked Actor Im Afraid Of Americans Im going to post the songs that are available, they arent all there but Ill post the one that are in different statuses because I cant put several on the same post. https://youtube/watch?v=CekMTc7IIZQ BTW Anne-Marie Withenshaw would love to hear your comments about the interview :).
