BP shares climb on better-than-forecast profit . . . . . . . . . British Petroleum (BP) reported third-quarter earnings that surpasses analysts projection on “strong operational progress” and “focus on disciplined investment.” Profit in the quarter through September reached $3.7 billion, compared to forecast of $3.17 billion. The strong operational progress we are now seeing across the group, combined with our focus on disciplined investment, also underpins our confidence in growing long-term sustainable free cash flow and being able to increase shareholder distributions, CEO Bob Dudely said. Operating cash flow during the quarter came in at $6.3 billion, where the company keeps its target for 2014 intact.
