BREAKING NEW INSIDER SCANDAL: A Texas judge and an independent watch dog group are saying Attorney General Greg Abbott agreed to a very favorable settlement for Farmers Insurance in a lawsuit he was pursuing against them while receiving more than $127,000 from the company. Background • As Attorney General, Greg Abbott has been representing the state in a class action lawsuit against Farmers Insurance -- a case that has been ongoing since 2003. • During that time, Abbott was also accepting over $100,000 in contributions from Farmers -- despite his pledge in 2002 to return all contributions from Farmers after learning the company was under investigation. • Last November, Abbott agreed to a settlement with Farmers Insurance that a judge called deferential to the company. ◦ In fact, the judge went so far as to say to Abbott: You dont just have to lay down to Farmers. • A month after Greg Abbott agreed to this settlement, called a “sweetheart deal” by an independent watch dog -- Abbott received his largest contribution from Farmers Insurance -- $50,000. • Greg Abbott has shown once again that hes only looking out for his insider buddies that give him campaign contributions -- even when it comes at the expense of hundreds of thousands of policyholders he was supposed to be representing.
