BREAKING NEWS Nigeria Reaches Ceasefire Agreement with Boko Haram Sect – Channels TV After playing politics with innocent lives they have finally come to the negotiation table. Imagine the number of lives that would have been saved if dialogue was employed when this crisis began. This was what I proposed 3 years ago: ……..Let me state emphatically that our security challenges cannot be solved by foreigners. Our security problem as a nation can only be solved holistically. I suggest the following: 1. The foreign security team should be sent away 2. There should be a total overhaul of the security system in the country 3. At the Interim, Vigilantes should be set up by every community and they should report to the village (community) head and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of that particular area. Members of the Vigilante that distinguish themselves should be integrated into the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps. 4. The money budgeted for security vote for governors should be used in paying the members of the vigilante 5. The Nigeria Police salary and allowances should be increased to match the standard of other developing countries 6. Serious training and retraining should be introduced in the Nigeria Police 7. The Nigeria Military should be disengaged from civil duties and replaced by the Police 8. A national database should be created; personal and biometric data should be collected from all citizens 9. Community policing should be fully introduced in the country. That is, the People and the Police MUST partner to fight and avert crime. The people should feel free to give vital security information to the Police and the Police should be discipline and professional enough to act on them. 10. Henceforth dialogue should be the medium for tackling the Boko Haram problem. sacs945.wordpress/2012/10/15/confronting-our-security-challenges-boko-haram-in-perspective-2/
