BREAKING NEWS! Special Olympics released data today proving the success of our Healthy Communities initiative to narrow the health gap faced by people with intellectual disabilities. By 2025 we will expand the program from 14 to 100 sites. Healthy Communities provides essential health services to people with intellectual disabilities, a population that is severely medically under-served. In just 2 years we have provided 52,424 free health examinations and have linked 2,187 people to treatment for serious health conditions discovered through these free examinations. We have trained 11,882 health care professionals and delivered health education on locally relevant topics such as water sanitation, HIV and AIDS, and malaria.
