BREAKING NEWS: The Lufkin school board tonight approved $1.4 million in teacher raises for the next school year. Rhonda Oaks, education for The Lufkin News, is at the school board meeting and will have a full report in your Wednesday morning newspaper and online at lufkindailynews/news/article_0b490d3e-f689-11e3-8300-001a4bcf887a.html. A quote from Lufkin ISD Superintendent LaTonya Goffney: As anticipated, the state revenues have increased slightly by approximately $525,000. This past year, we funded additional capital improvement projects of approximately $770,000 that will not be required for the 2014-2015 budget. These savings along with actual HR savings due to attrition, retirement, reassignment of employees, and implementation of staffing guidelines for next school year, resulted in a savings of about $1.2 million. We were very pleased to recommend that these funds be used to increase our teacher salaries.
