BREAKING NEWS – MORE DOG THIEVES CAUGHT! In recent days, the WDT (Watchdog Thailand) hotline received a phone call from a very distraught and tearful citizen of Wiangchai in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. The distressed caller was reporting a dog meat shop with some captured dogs in the backyard. Watch Dog Thailand’s undercover investigators joined forces with the sheriff and superintendent of the local police station and raided the shop. 8 live dogs were rescued and dog meat was seized as evidence. After obtaining additional evidence, the police investigated two other shops suspected of selling dog meat. At the first shop, no evidence could be found, however the owner was given a very serious warning against participating in the trade. At the other shop, evidence was found and 2 live dogs were rescued. Tragically, it was obvious that some dogs had been killed just minutes before the raid occurred. The suspect was arrested and transported to Wiangchai police station to be formally charged. Under the national policy formulated by WDT, the Soi Dog Foundation, the Royal Thai Police and the Department of Livestock Development, 4 charges were brought: Illegally torturing animals Trading of animals and their carcasses without permission Transporting dogs or their carcasses without permission Being in possession of unvaccinated dogs The rescued dogs were transported to the government shelter at Nakhon Phanom for veterinary examination, vaccination and sterilisation. Following this, they will be transferred to the shelter at Buriram, which is funded by the members of Soi Dog’s Magic 1000 Club. All transportation costs are borne by Soi Dog.
