BREAKING: University President Jose Ramon Villarin, SJ issues a memorandum regarding the presence of former First Lady Imelda Marcos at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Ateneo Scholarship Foundation (ASF) held on July 5. Villarin apologizes for “any doubts that may have arisen on the mission of the school and the pain [the] event may have caused.” He explains that Marcos was invited to the event since the ASF began with a donation from the proceeds of a concert organized by her. The statement was made in response to the concerns raised by some members of the Ateneo community with regard to photos of Marcos during the event. She was seen giving a speech as well as posing with Villarin and some of the universitys scholars.
