BRIEF ADDRESS BY SENATOR ‘GBENGA B. ASHAFA AT THE RE-OPENING CEREMONY OF THE RENOVATED BADO-ISALE COMMUNITY LAUNDRY FACILITY, EPE LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ON JUNE 6, 2014. I am always pleased and excited to be within my constituency. My dear people of Lagos East Senatorial District know they are always on my mind, and despite what seems to be an interminable distance between my work in Abuja and Lagos, I have ensured that more channels of communication are opened to encourage feedback which in turn promotes great interaction between leaders and followers. As a manager of men and resources, I understand the critical nature and role of information dissemination in the whole communication process. In the 21st century, the power of information dissemination has been enhanced by technology. This has given rise to what we now know as “New Media” or “Social Media” as it is more popularly known amongst the youths of our generation. The story of why we are gathered here today is an interesting one. On February 25, 2014, one of my followers and friend on Facebook (a social media platform which helps me keep in touch with my people over the internet) who goes by the name of Arogundade Liafeez Adeola notified me in a comment on my Facebook page that there was an abandoned community laundry house at Ward A4 in Bado-Isale community, Epe Local Government. In a swift response, I instructed my team to check his claims and subsequently it was verified to be true. One week after, renovation commenced and in less than three weeks, the renovation was 90% complete. Today, it’s a success story. It may also interest you to know that the manpower deployed for the renovation was locally sourced. I thank everyone who made today’s event a successful one, especially my constituency manager, Mr. Abiodun Lawal, his able team and the entire staff of my four constituency offices in Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu, Ikosi and Epe. I would also like to thank my online community (both friends and followers) for the level of engagement on my Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Google Plus online platforms and the constructive criticism they offer from time to time. Our presence here today is an offshoot of the online community and it has helped us demonstrate that we do not only know the problems, but are willing to commence solving them. We have been able to come this far, only through the prudent management of our resources, and by converting our lean resources to the common good of the people of Lagos East. As your senator, I remain accessible to feedback and I welcome them. It is on this note that I wish to formally re-open the Bado-Isale Community Laundry Facility to the glory of God, to the use of mankind and the overall growth of the Bado-Isale community. Eko o ni baje!
