BRILLIANT - SCRIPTURAL - SIMPLICITY (BSS) Much has been written and said regarding the current status/validity of the old and/or new Covenant(s). Bear in mind that there are numerous covenants mentioned in Scripture. However, the one Covenant that has historically been (and is currently still) seen as a two-part “replacement system” is the Covenant regarding the Salvation of man-kind. The reasoning for this approach goes something like this: First-up we have the covenant of Môsheh based on the “law” which was supposed to have been for the salvation of Y’iśrael. (the old covenant of “the law*”) And then we have another covenant instituted after the death and resurrection of Ma’aseyah based on grace. (the new covenant of grace) Personally i have a few questions regarding this reasoning: 1. This system makes provision (apparently) for two groups of people - Môsheh to Ma’aseyah and then Ma’aseyah to present day. What about the people from Adam to Môsheh? – Was there no covenant of Salvation for them...??? 2. By their own admission adherents of this doctrine state categorically that: “...for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” (Gal 2:16) and as such the covenant of “the law” becomes void. Therefore no Salvation was available for Y’iśrael...??? 3. Why would YHWH require diverse covenants for different groups of people? 4. Why would YHWH require different covenants for specific time-periods in history? But i am not a great believer of mere criticism – i believe we should also supply reasonable alternatives. There is only one source of information to assist us in establishing the origin of the Covenant of Salvation and that is Scripture. (The following is a perfect example of the BSS principle) The following texts may just help us find the origin of The Covenant - and not just when it started, but also what it entails. (To ensure objectivity i will quote from 3 different translations) King James Version: Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, {{through the blood of the everlasting covenant,}} 1Pe 1:18 {{Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible thing,}} as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 1:19 {{But with the precious blood of Christ,}} as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 1:20 {{Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world}}, but was manifest in these last times for you, Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; {{whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.}} Young’s Literal Translation: Heb 13:20 And the God of the peace, who did bring up out of the dead the great shepherd of the sheep – {{in the blood of an age-during covenant}} - our Lord Jesus, 1Pe 1:18 having known that, {{not with corruptible things - silver or gold - were ye redeemed}} from your foolish behaviour delivered by fathers, 1:19 {{but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and unspotted - Christs}} - 1:20 {{foreknown, indeed, before the foundation of the world,}} and manifested in the last times because of you, Mic 5:2 And thou, Beth-Lehem Ephratah, Little to be among the chiefs of Judah! From thee to Me he cometh forth - to be ruler in Israel, {{And his comings forth `are of old, From the days of antiquity.}} American Standard Version (1901): Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with {{the blood of an eternal covenant}}, `even our Lord Jesus, I Pet 1:18 knowing that {{ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold}}, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers; 1:19 {{but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, `even the blood of Christ}}: 1:20 who was {{foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world}}, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake, Mic 5:2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; {{whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting}}. In summary: an “...eternal covenant...” in the Redeemer YaH’shua-Ma’aseyah ordained before the “...foundation of the world...” YaH’shua-Ma’aseyah is the Eternal Covenant! We have no need of a “new covenant” - we have always had the Perfect Covenant in place, since before creation... * I use the word “law” advisedly as i believe it should read “Torah”
