BROKEN POLES AND DOWNED TREES SLOW RESTORATION PROCESS STATESVILLE, N.C. – EnergyUnited reports that as of 9 p.m. ET, approximately 1,800 members of the cooperative remain without power. At the start of the day on Friday, the cooperative had 5,400 storm-related outages in its system and 16,000 at the peak of Thursday evening’s storm. Iredell County, hit hard by the storm, is the area with the most work left to be completed, accounting for nearly 1,400 of the outages that remain. “What we found once we were able to spend time assessing the damage this morning was that there were a good number of broken poles and downed trees,” said H. Wayne Wilkins, EnergyUnited CEO. “Tree crews have played an integral part in this restoration effort today as they have had to clear areas before the electric crews could begin their work. These tasks simply take more time than your average issue. Because of that, it has taken us a little longer to restore power in some areas than we originally anticipated. Be assured, however, that our crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible and will continue to work through the night to complete the job.” On Friday there were 55 crews - 24 from EnergyUnited, 8 from neighboring cooperatives, 13 contract crews and 10 tree service crews - made up of two to five team members each, working to repair damage and restore service. Four neighboring cooperatives sent crews to assist the EnergyUnited teams. Crews identified 55 broken poles and worked to replace them throughout the day. Work will continue through the night. EnergyUnited members who remain without power are encouraged to call the cooperative at 1-800-EUNITED to report their outages to endure their outage in the system. Members may obtain up-to-the-minute outage information at the storm center on EnergyUnited’s website (https://energyunited/storm_center2.asp). Outage information will also be posted on the Cooperative’s Facebook and Twitter pages found at https://facebook/EnergyUnited and https://twitter/EnergyUnitedEMC.
