BROWNSVILLE MEN BEATEN IN MATAMOROS, ONE KILLED One Brownsville man was killed, another badly hurt, after they were kidnapped and beaten in Matamoros. Cameron County sheriffs officials say the two were transporting vehicles to Matamoros, when the vehicle they were driving overheated. When they pulled over, a group of armed men moved in, forced them into a truck, and they were taken away and beaten with boards. They were dropped off at a hospital, and officials there drove them to the Los Indios International Bridge. Paramedics were called, but 38-year-old Eric Candanosa had already died. 27-year-old Carlos Moreno is expected to survive. Local authorities are working with their counterparts in Matamoros to find the suspects, and to determine the motive.
