BRTV NEWS: posted by arewa 2347031200094 14TH SEPT, 2013 CIVILIAN JTF The State Government has presented three patrol vehicles and ten million naira to civilian JTF in Baga town of Kukawa Local Government. Another patrol vehicle has also been presented to the group at Dabar-Masara in the same Local Government. The Patrol vehicles were presented to the civilian JTF by Alhaji Modu Alhaji Musa on behalf of Governor Kashim Shettima. He said the two Toyota land cruiser pick-up vans and Golf Saloon car as well as the sum of ten million Naira were meant for the displaced community of Baga and environs while the saloon car is meant for the Chairman of the group in the area. Similarly, he said a Toyota land Cruiser pick-up van has been donated to members of the civilian JTF of Dabar Masara for their patrol purposes. Alhaji Modu Alhaji Musa while expressing Governor Kashim Shettima’s sympathy for what has happened advised members of the civilian JTF to make proper use of the vehicles and always work hand-in hand with security agents while carrying out their duties. On his part the caretaker of Kukawa Local Government Lawan Alhaji Kole who is also the Secretary of the committee thanked the Governor for his untiring concern and support to peace initiatives and assured of his people support at all times. Others who spoke in the same vein include a former State Assembly member in the area Ali Barai Abba Sale and Special adviser to the Governor on environment Mohammed Bukar. The presentation ceremony which took place at Baga town was witnessed by all members of the delegation, traditional and community leaders as well as members of the civilian JTF in the area. Responding, the community leaders Bulama Ali Mani thanked Governor Kashim Shettima for the gesture and called on all well meaning Nigerians to follow suit by also donating their widow’s might. In their separate remarks the representative of the District Head of Baga and Ward Head of Jemu, Mohammed Lawan Karta and the Chief Imam of Baga Imam Goni Umar thanked the Governor and assured of their maximum support to his administration. VISIT: The General Manager of Borno Radio Television Corporation (BRTV) Zanna Usman Ali Chiroma has acknowledged the efforts of Governor Kashim Shettima towards digitization of BRTV. He was speaking while receiving the New Air force 79 Group commander in the State Air Commodore Nurideen Abiodun Balogun at the Broadcasting House. Alhaji Zanna Usman Chiroma first took the august visitor to the station’s main control room where he told him that most of the equipments are operated manually. At the recording studio where he informed him of a new programme planning and studying committee working in collaboration with National Orientation Agency in the State to produce Educational Programmes aimed at instilling discipline in the Society. Other areas inspected include the transmitter room, FM studio and other units in the Broadcasting House. He told the visiting Commander that when he took over the affairs of the corporation there was no single recording machine for radio programmes. The General Manager said with the assistance of the State Government new recording gadgets were procured while producers of Radio Programmes were sent for training on basic operations of the equipment. He also told the visitor that the station has one Outside Broadcast Van for live Radio coverage of special occasions. Already he said some of the equipments are already on ground while others are still being awaited to fully make the station Digital. Borno State Commissioner for Animal Resources and Fisheries Development The Borno State Commissioner for Animal Resources and Fisheries Development Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe has called on students to be tolerant with one another. Professor Sandabe made the call when the Student Union Government (SUG) paid him a courtesy call in his office. The Commissioner advised them to be vigilant to the menace of cultism and insurgency on campus. He described University of Maiduguri as one of the best in the Country in times of Academic excellence and discipline and urged the students to maintain the status quo. Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe said in an effort to encourage students, Government has placed Medical and Veterinary students on Monthly salary adding that Tertiary Institutions are also receiving face-lift to make teaching and learning conducive. Earlier, the President of Student Union Government, Comrade Faisal Yahaya said the purpose of the courtesy call was to appreciate efforts of the Kashim Shettima administration in revamping the Education Sector and reaffirmed the readiness of the students’ body to support laudable programmes of the present administration. WORKSHOP The Local Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS in collaboration with BOSACA has organized a sensitization workshop for Secondary School Teachers drawn from five Local Government Areas of the State. The one day workshop took place at the School of Nursing and Midwifery Maiduguri. The Sensitization Workshop is on integration of HIV/AIDS Education into the School Curriculum of Post Primary Schools. Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary Local Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS Mafa Local Government Chapter Alhaji Saleh Abdullahi said this is not the first time that such workshop is being organized to educate students on HIV/AIDS. The Representative of BOSACAM Executive Secretary, Community Mobilization Officer Mallam Mohammed Bello commended the organizers of the Workshop and pledged to support their activities whenever the need arises. On his part, the Desk Officer State Ministry of Higher Education Ibrahim T. Bokko who is also the resource person spoke on the need to integrate HIV/AIDS Education into Secondary School Curriculum. Also speaking, the Director Primary Health Care, Konduga, Alhaji Lawan Tahir commended the programme organizers describing it as a well come development towards controlling of the disease among Secondary School Students. Contributing Principal Government Day Secondary School Mafa Hajja Zainawa pledged to use the books distributed on the control of HIV/AIDS to educate her students. In a remark, LACA Secretary Konduga Local Government Mohammed Gambo appealed to BOSACAM to render necessary assistance LACA to enable it tame the spread of HIV/AIDS at the grassroots. Climax of the Workshop include presentation of Booklets on control of HIV/AIDS to the participants by the Director Primary Healthcare Konduga Alhaji Lawan Tahir. Teachers of Post Primary Schools from MMC, Jere, Konduga, Bama and Mafa attended the Workshop. DECAMPEES PDP defectors alongside Governor Goni Campaign Organization have joined the All Progressives Party (APC) in recognition of Governor Kashim Administration’s transformation drive in the State. The delegation was led to the Government House by Engineer Mohammed Kabair Wanori. Receiving the delegation Governor Kashim Shettima commended their foresight to join the APC, saying they will be carried along as the party does not condone any discrimination. Governor Kashim, who lamented over the lack of Federal presence in the State, however said as indigenes of the State they must come together and salvage the State. The Governor who described the defectors as people of proven integrity and wealth of experience urged them to contribute to the success of APC and progress of the State. Earlier Engineer Mohammed Kabir Wanori informed the Governor that the delegation include some members of the Peoples Democratic Party including Governor Goni’s Campaign Organization in the 2011 general elections. He said their collective decision to leave PDP and join APC was informed by the Governor’s leadership qualities which endears him to the citizens of the State. Engineer Wanori said the Governor has proved that the State can be transformed to a desirable level despite the security challenges. Contributing, Barrister Zak promised to justify their coming to APC urging those yet to decide to do so for the progress of the State. APC Governor Kashim Shettima has assured the PDP defectors that their interest will be protected adequately in the APC without any discrimination. The Governor stated this while addressing multiple of PDP supporters from across the state who defected to the All Progressives party at the multi-purpose hall of the Government House. According to the Governor APC is a new party and nobody will be treated as a stranger. He said they will be given fair treatment even in terms of appointment for them to have sense of belonging. Governor Kashim Shettima also promised to formally receive them at their various Local Governments and thanked the defectors for joining the APC which he described as timely. In his introductory remark Secretary to the State Government Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda advised them to take advantage of the forthcoming membership registration and register in the party. The SSG who emphasized internal democracy within the APC when it comes to selection of candidates, hoped that the defectors will contribute to the success of the APC. Former ANPP State Secretary Baba Kura Shettima and Agric Commissioner, and that of Commerce Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir both described the defection of the PDP members as home coming. They equally urged them to mobilize support to the APC at the grassroots. Hajiya Fanta Baba Shehu from Borno North observed that every right thinking person should support Governor Kashim and his new Party for the development of the State. Alhaji Modu Alkali from Borno Central said they have joined the APC in full force and will give their maximum contribution for its success. On his part former PDP Secretary Ibrahim Kida commended Governor Kashim for his people oriented programmes and his cordiality with his Deputy but however called for the completion of Biu Dam project. EMIR The Emir of Bama Alhaji Kyari Ibn Ibrahim El-kanemi has appealed to parents and guardians in the area to send their wards to school. He was speaking recently when the Vice Chairman of Bama local government council paid him homage in his palace. Alhaji Kyari Ibn Ibrahim El-kanemi reminded the people on the importance of education which he said is the bedrock of any meaningful development. He also appealed to those who are yet to return to do so as normalcy has returned to the area. The Emir of Bama emphasized on the need for the people to continue to prayer for peace to prevent in the state and the country at large. Earlier the Vice chairman Alhaji Mustapha Guja said he was at the Palace to paid homage after assessment visit to various primary schools burnt down by insurgents. The Vice chairman restated the council’s readiness to provide teaching and learning facilities to all primary schools in the area. While at the Local Education Authority the Vice chairman was received and taken round to various primary schools by the secretary Hajja Aisha Abatcha Ngala. Alhaji Mustapha Guja commended the staff of the Local Education Authority for resuming work on schedule. The Vice chairman was conducted round the LEA building by the secretary and shown the burnt down structures. Meanwhile the council’s chairman Baba Shehu Gulumba has appealed to parents and guardians not to be deterred from sending their wards to schools that are not affected by the crisis as efforts are being made to reconstruct the destroyed schools. PEACE A one day meeting of Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Societies, Women and Youth Organizations has ended in Maiduguri. Organized by the Youth Federation for World Peace, the meeting was aimed at forming a network of all NGO’s and Civil Society Organizations in the State. Addressing the gathering the zonal coordinator of the youth federation for world peace Ambassador Ahmed Shehu said the meeting was aimed a forming a network of all Non Governmental, Civil Society Organizations as well as women and youth groups in the State to have a unified, virile and formidable team that will look into the peoples plight with a view to addressing them. This he said will also serve as avenue through which developmental programmes and interventions can reach appropriate organizations. Ambassador Shehu announced that Borno will host the forthcoming North-East Peace summit to commemorate the United Nations Day for World Peace slated for the twenty fifth of this month and appealed to Government and other stakeholders to support the programme. Earlier, the convener of the meeting Ballama Mustapha enjoined participants to be objective in their nominations to ensure the emergence of credible people as formidable team that will lead the network. He also expressed gratitude to the British council and Nigeria stability and Reconciliation programme for their encouragement and support. Contributing the Regional Coordinator of the British Council Hajiya Hamsatu Al-Amin commended the foresight and initiative of the organizers, saying the formation of the network is long overdue. She assured the readiness of her organization to partner with the group for the benefit of the people stressing that resolving violent conflict is a task that must be done. On his part the state Director National Orientation Agency Mallam Yahaya Imam represented by his assistant Aliyu Abdullahi expressed confidence that the new network will be the nucleus of all NGO’s that will propel them to action and call lackadaisical ones to order. At the end of the meeting interim executive members that will run the affairs of the new Network were elected. The seventeen members Executive has Mohammed Hassan Ngubdo as chairman with Mrs. Agnes U. Bashel and Ballama Mustapha as Deputy Chairman and Director Administration respectively. RELIEF Relatives of those who lost their lives in recent insurgent attacks in Dumba and Kwatan Dogoshi Villages in Kukawa local government have received financial assistance from the state government. Over sixteen point seven million naira was presented to relatives of the sixty seven persons who died in the attack. Each of the relatives got two hundred and fifty thousand naira while thirteen persons who sustained injuries received fifty thousand naira each for medication. Leader of the distribution committee Alhaji Modu Alhaji Musa performed presentation of the cash assistance in Kukawa Township with traditional and religious leaders in attendance. One of the bereaved families Ali Chiroma who lost his brother thanked the Governor and the delegation for the concern to their plight and prayed Allah to reward them abundantly. Members of Government delegation were also at the residents of District Heads of Kanembu Alhaji Zanna Ali Yirima, that of Kekano Alhaji Abba Tuja and that of Baga during which they called on the people to intensify prayers for peace in the state.
