BUDGET 2014 TOUGH ON SPORT Yesterdays budget announcement saw an 8% reduction in current funding for Irish Sport. It is believed that the budget for the Irish Sports Council in 2014 is likely to be in the region of €40 million – a reduction of some €3 million on 2013. Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform Brendan Howlin made mention in his speech of additional funds being made available as part of a stimulus package, believed to be funded from the sale of the National Lottery, for a Sports Capital Programme and the National Indoor Training Centre at the Sports Campus in Abbotstown. The details of this investment will be clarified as part of the Revised Estimates process due to be completed before the end of the year. The Federation has reacted with disappointment to this afternoon’s announcement in relation to current funding. Our full statement is available by clicking on the link here
