BUHARI AND THE ACADEMIC CERTIFICATE. I have read many posts and writers quoted constitutional academic criteria as expressed in our jaundiced constitution in relation to the above. (I have yet to research it myself) Well, this is a serious make or break issue. I am hoping that it can be resolved without delay. Either way we have to follow the law. While we anxiously wait to hear further on the matter, the big question on my mind is, if indeed as many people allege, Buhari does not have the relevant qualification, how did he manage to run for office on previous occasions without INEC asking the same question? Why now? Did INEC conveniently turn a blind eye because they felt that he was not going to win and as such not a threat or worth challenging? In essence have they been wilfully misleading us but now ready to work because Buhari is a much stronger candidate on this occasion and the wind of change is blowing heavily with many people afraid of the outcome? In the event that he does not have the relevant qualification which I doubt, can lawyers safely argue that INECs previous conduct created a precedent which has given him and many others in his assumed position reasonable expectations and they cannot stop him now? But can the wilful or erroneous omission or grant of a delegated authority without the powers to make law be binding? It will be nice to know.
